Three days on horseback, living alongside a Kyrgyz family, organised and led by Azamat — an independent shepherd and guide we met on our own travels.
Azamat's 3-day trek
Azamat takes you from Kyzart up to Lake Son Kul over three days, with two nights under the yurt at his shepherd family's camp. He organises, guides and hosts the whole route himself: we play no part in it on the ground.
Day 1 · 4 to 5 hours
Azamat welcomes you at the village of Kyzart late in the morning and hands you your horse. Together you cross a first pass, heading for Lake Son Kul, where his family is waiting at the yurt camp. The rest of the day is yours: explore the surroundings at your own pace and spend time with the horses. In the evening, a traditional dinner comes before your first warm night under the yurt.
Day 2 · 4 to 5 hours
You wake up by the lake. If you feel like it, you follow the shepherds through their morning, then set off around Son Kul: long gallops across the steppe, a swim if the weather allows, lunch at a yurt along the way. You come back in the late afternoon for the milking of the mares and the cows, the sheep being brought in, and an evening with the whole family.
Day 3 · 4 to 5 hours
You follow the shores of the lake one last time before taking on another pass — Kir-Jol Ashuu or Uzbek Ashuu. A long descent brings you back down to Kyzart in the afternoon, ready to head on to Bishkek or to carry on with your own itinerary.

Two French travellers who fell in love with Kyrgyzstan. That is where we met Azamat — as travellers, not as tourism professionals.
We are not an agency and we sell no trips. We prepare, advise and translate. The trek is his, and your agreement is made directly with him.

He rides and leads every trek himself, from the first day to the last. On the ground, he is your only point of contact.
